The Placement Monitor - JUKI's latest innovation for Root Cause Failure Analysis directly within the machine
In the assembly process it is important to eliminate a problem. In many cases, high speed movement of the machines makes it extremely hard to see exactly what is happening and only few real-time tools for pick and place systems exist at the moment. JUKI has developed a new system called Placement Monitor – an “eye” inside a pick and place machine.
With the Placement Monitor, JUKI offers an innovative solution which automates failure analysis and gives an important contribution to process stability. This option was developed in co-operation with Cyberoptics and is a solution exclusive to JUKI. It contains a very compact laser unit and a camera module, which houses a separate camera for each of the six nozzles to take the necessary pictures. The pictures of component pick-up from the feeder and of the set-down action are automatically evaluated. If an error occurs it will be displayed on the monitor and enables the operator to quickly take the necessary steps. The Placement Monitor provides more details to the engineer and gives picture traceability information as well. With the movie function multiple images can be recorded during pick and place of a component. Thus, a problem can easily be determined without additional work during the machine operation. As the Placement Monitor is linked to the machine software, the operator gets detailed information on the component, which speeds up the troubleshooting. Component data, such as dimensions and speed, as well as the exact position of the nozzles within the ATC are displayed. If more than one unit of the same nozzle type is mounted it is important to clean or replace only those nozzles which are actually soiled or damaged in order to reduce downtime and keep costs at a minimum.
The Placement Monitor from JUKI also goes one step further: ; historical data can now also be analysed. It is possible to extract data from the database using standard or specified filters.
Until now Root Cause Failure Analysis has required a lot of extra effort; additional cost regarding assembly unit and an additional analysis tool. This also affected the length of a line and required an in depth programming knowledge as well as a lot of time. JUKI is breaking new ground here. The Placement Monitor is integrated in the placement head, therefore additional programming work is not necessary. The data required by the Placement Monitor is extracted directly from the loaded placement programme and processed as necessary.
This exclusive solution from JUKI speeds up your Root Cause Failure Analysis dramatically. The Placement Monitor option is currently available on the KE-2070 and KE-2080 modules. Other modules will follow soon. For more information or a live demo please get in contact your local JUKI sales person.
